Sandygast can also only be obtained through an event-exclusive field research task, not one of the seasonal tasks. If you do want to go the field research task route, then it's a good idea to see if you can find a local Pokémon Go group as someone there might have already found the PokéStop you need to visit.
To answer the question that's likely popped into your head, Pokemon No. 1,000 is Gholdengo. This Steel/Ghost type is the evolved form of Gimmighoul, which transforms if leveled up after you collect 999 Gimmighoul Coins.
Sandygast can use Astonish and Mud Shot as Fast Attacks and Sand Tomb, Earth Power, Scorching Sands, and Shadow Ball as Charged Attacks. This makes it a relatively easy critter to take down on your own, especially if you have high-leveled Dark or Grass-type Pocket Monsters.
Sandygast can be defeated with one Trainers, but if you cannot guarantee the top counters with maxed-out CP and the best moves, your best bet is to make sure you have two players. Using the Circle Lock Technique to guarantee Great or Excellent throws, along with Golden Razz Berries, is the best way to catch Pokémon.
Sandygast is outclassed by other Ground-type Pokemon such as Diglett and Mudbray in an offensive role because their good abilities and coverage give them more offensive presence; however, Sandygast is one of the strongest Ground-type special attackers.
Palossand is a Ghost/Ground dual type Pokémon. It evolves from Sandygast starting at level 42. Palossand has a Ghost/Rock dual type Aevian Form. It evolves from Rocky Aevian Sandygast starting at level 42.
Sandygast and its evolved form, Palossand, are the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Shore Up. They are also the only known Pokémon that can have Water Compaction as an Ability.
You can use incense and lure modules to increase your chances of encountering Sandygast. These items attract Pokemon to your location, making it easier to catch them without having to travel far.
