yHONOLULU — The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team will celebrate the program's 30th anniversary with a 20-match 2024 regular-season schedule, matching the longest of head coach Michele Nagamine's 14-year tenure leading the Rainbow Wahine.

( Last season, they played 16 games )

Actually the first match is on 8/15, against Georgia Southern.

Five more weeks and we'll have UH sports back in action!

Coach Nagamine said the ladies report for practice on July 29 with the season to begin on Aug 15. That's only 18 days to practice compared to about 31 days for football. Women's volleyball also doesn't have too many weeks of preseason practice.

They have been practicing ( assume for spring practice, off-season workouts ) since Nov at any place they can find such as the baseball, softball and Ching fields. Also some grass fields provided by the community with help from the booster club president, Melissa _____ .

She says this incoming class is the strongest she's had but winning the Big West is daunting with teams like UCI, LBSU, Cal Poly, Fullerton and UC Davis. ... For those that think that the conference is not very strong in Div I, she said the Big West is rated by some as the 9th ranked conference out of 32.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

In the below link, Big West soccer is currently ranked 10th out of 32 conferences

The schedule has them playing matches on consecutive days against Baylor (August 21st) and Portland (August 22nd). Can that be right? Normally there are at least two rest days between women’s soccer matches.

Neither opponent will be playing on one day's rest. Seems like a great way to nullify home-field advantage. Makes no sense at all to me.

Story I was told is a team dropped out of coming to play and both Baylor and Portland were promised 2 games on their trip here. So to fulfill that obligation the wahine are playing back to back.

If so then I think we were a little too accommodating. The Portland match could have been scheduled for a day later, at least giving a us a day between matches and allowing Portland a day between matches. The current arrangement solely penalizes UH.

Something doesn't make sense. Wahine play Baylor on Wednesday Aug. 21, and Baylor plays Portland on Sunday Aug. 25. So, why couldn't the Wahine-Portland match be scheduled on Friday Aug. 23 instead of on Thursday Aug. 22?

The only reason I can think of is that Portland doesn't want to take on Baylor on only one day's rest when Baylor will have had three days' rest, and rather than push back UH is falling on its sword.

Don't know if Craig Angelos was involved in the decision but if not I think he should make a call to his Portland counterpart and see if he can get the game pushed back a day. There's no perfect solution but IMHO there should be a more reasonable compromise that doesn't screw over the home team.

Amber admitted Shawn Kuroda and his Surf Soccer Club didn't teach her the finer parts of the game. Surf only taught her how to kick it and run.

Yes it was sad how clubs, some more than others, changed philosophies into being all about getting players recruited and running ID camps. Instead of developing players and winning as a team it became more about individuals and they’re getting recruited which ruined many a team’s chemistry.

That is really sad about just playing kick ball. I don't think all the clubs in Hawaii do this so that is a positive although I do still see highlights of some youngers who just try to go 1v4 while their open teammates are standing 15 feet away and just shake my head.

Even as a 1st teamer, Amber has so much more potential. She is very similar to PoY Cherrie Cox from Long Beach with the speed and athleticism but just without the skills.
